A three day National Seminar on “Cultural Heritage of Assam”

A three day National Seminar on “Cultural Heritage of Assam” organized by IGRMS in collaboration with Deptt. Of Anthropology, Guwahati University, Guwahati, Assam, from 23-25 April 2015.
The Seminar inaugurated on 23rd April 2015 in the presence of Prof. Hari Prasad Sarmah, The Rector, Gauhati University as Chief Guest, Prof. Birendranath Datta as inaugurator, Prof. A.C. Bhagabati as Guest of honor, PProf. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri  , Director IGRMS, Prof. Mini Bhattacharyya as president of the inaugural session. Other than the above dignitaries many distinguished Anthropologist/ Social Scientist from different parts of the country, Teachers, Research Scholars and Students of Dept. of Anthropology, Gauhati University were also present to witness the event.
  In his introductory speech Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri said that to discuss and interact on the theme “Cultural Heritage of Assam” this three days seminar is not sufficient. But it is the beginning and such discussion will be continued in different parts of Assam in future.
On this auspicious occasion three exhibitions were also mounted to give a glimpse of Assam. The first exhibition is a photo exhibition on the life and culture of hill Tiwa tribe of Assam. These photographs have been displayed from the collection of a renown media photographer as well as anthropologist Ritu Raj Konwar.
The second exhibition was based on the Rock art heritage of Assam, curated by Dr. Dwipen Bezbaruah, where as the book exhibition was organized by the Indian Council for Historical Research.
The Keynote address was presented by Prof. K.K. Basa, the former Director of IGRMS and Prof. of Dept. of Anthropology, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. In his address Prof. Basa said that the Anthropologist and the Researchers should study the cultural heritage in the past and present, keeping in mind that this heritage is to be transferred to the future generations.
 
During these three day event around 94 papers will be presented and discussed on different aspects of the cultural heritage of Assam.
