Swar-Maitry

Observing the World Heritage Week, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sanghralaya organised an Indian & Foreign instrumental fusion music programme ‘Swar-Maitry’ today where renowned Sitar player from India, Ms Smita Nagdev collaborated with Musicians from France & Belgium. Smita Nagdev (Sitar player), have been experimenting to find new directions in Music with the musicians of other traditions such as European, American, African Etc from time to time. This time she collaborated with Musicians from France & Belgium to explore new dimensions of both these musics through our unique style of musical presentations. She was accompanied in the performance by Shri Florian, the flautist from France, Jean-Phillipe a Belgian percussionist, and Cyrille a Belgian Double
Bassist,(total 4 musicians on stage) will present the original flavor of both, Indian classical and Western music as a fusion.
The presentation commenced with solo sitar performance of Raaga Yaman by Smita Nagdev followed by western classical by the foreign musicians. In the next Ms. Smita and the musicians together present ‘Golden sun', blend of Indian classical music and the western, followed by 'Amirigo'. The last performance of the eve was Gandhiji's famous Bhajan 'Raghupati raghav rajaram' and the fusion was entitled as 'together for peace' a message to the listeners asking to work towards world peace. Earlier the artists were welcomed with bouquets and the huge crowd cheered on every performance.
Florian Guibert - Flute: After studying fine arts in Poitiers, France, Florian dedicates himself to music and get a diploma in Jazz studies from the Chichester College of Music in England. Since his debut, he’s been exploring many musical genres and styles, from traditional Australia to Latin America, via India. He’s been working for theatre for a creation by Matthias Langoff at the Comédie Française in Paris. Busy in different music bands in England, France and Belgium, he tours in india with his audio visual project IF Trio in 2013. Eager to experiment new things, Florian Guibert has been taking part in the jazz scene, contemporary and improvised music.
Cyrille de Haes - Contrebasse: After finishing his studies in business at l’Université Catholique de Louvain-La-Neuve (Belgium), Cyrille Starts studying double basse at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. Cameleon with 50 album recorded so far, he worked as a sideman for the past 15 years on different stages : e.a. Vieilles Charrues, Paléo, Bozar Electronic, Théatre National de Bruxelles, Festival Samois-sur-Seine… He tours in India with the Jazz fusion band : «Sangam». Co-director of the independent label ‘‘Spank Me More Record’’s, he works on Sound painting in Belgium organises shows joining dance theater and music with the Matters Collective. Cyrille de Haes is invited regularly to perform and compose for projects at the crossing of contemporary art.
Jean-Philippe De Gheest - Batterie: Studied at the Koninklijk Konservatorium van Brussels (Belgium), Jean-Philippe has from his early years worked on a sharp efficient and untamed drumming which brings him quickly to the forefront of the belgian and european scene. Immersed in the world of sounds and experimentations, he’s been working with musicians from around the world., He plays on the sonic poetry piece : Perte Totale Operations (with Antoine Boute & Mauro Pawlowski), He creates the Pop band Joy as a Toy and plays worldwide with Mark Lanegan (Queens of the Stone Age, Screeming Trees, Mark Lanegan Band),... Energetic drummer, Jean-Philippe De Gheest travels from improvised music to pure rock music
