Sacred Groves Festival 04-02-15

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is organising ‘Sacred Grove festival’ at its premises from 07-08 February, 2015. Ritualistic activities will the main features of this two day programme.

Sacred Groves are patches of natural or near-natural vegetation, dedicated by local communities to their ancestral spirits or deities. These Groves are protected by local communities usually through customary taboos and sanction with ancestral and ecological implications. The states particularly, rich in abundance of groves are Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

IGRMS has initiated number of activities to spread awareness on the cultural and ecological importance of sacred groves. This year during the programme, people from different communities related to sacred grove of the Sangrahalaya will perform ritualistic activities.
