Report on Inaugural Function of National Seminar On Museum Movement in South India at Southern Regional Centre, IGRMS, Mysore

The two day National seminar on Museum Movement in South India, in collaboration with Regional Museum of Natural History, Mysore, was commenced on 27/07/2015, at 10.30 AM by invocation prayer by Smt. Pushpalatha.  Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS has inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. Prof.  P.K. Misra, President of Anthropological Association, Myosre has given inaugural speech. He reflected overview of the growth of the museum movement in South India and raised certain pertinent issues linking with the theme of the seminar. The Director IGRMS had given introductory remarks about the program and Dr. Basavana Gowda, Director, Karnataka Tribal Research Institute, Mysore has shared some of his concern on this topic. Dr. Francis Kulakarni, Former Deputy Director, Anthropological Survey of India, and Sh. B. Yogendra, Scientist-B, RMNH Mysore were also present and spoke on the inaugural session today. Sh. V. Ashok Vardhan, has welcomed all the guests and delegates. Dr. P. Shankar Rao, Assistant Keeper, IGRMS, Bhopal has proposed vote of thanks.
            The other eminent personalities like Prof. A. Sundara, University of Mysore, Prof. N.S. Rangaraju, University of Mysore, Dept of History and Archaeology and Dr. J. Partha Sarathy, Former, Director of Tribal Research Institute, Ooty, Tamilnadu, were also present on the occasion. Besides there are about large number of research scholars from Department of Anthropology, History and Archaeology were also attended in the seminar.
 
            On the first day of the seminar seven papers were presented by Dr. Jakka Partha Sarathy, Dr. Chandrashekhar Damle, Prof. A. Sundara. Dr. N.S. Rangaraju, Sh. T. Nagendra Prasad, Dr. Prabhakar, and Dr. Kedareswari on the selected topic.  After the post-lunch session, all the delegates visited to IGRMS, SRC and visualized both open air as well as indoor exhibition.
