Poubi Lai- The Story of a Giant Python

“Poubi Lai- The Story of a Giant Python” at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is continuing to attract school students. Commenced from January 7, 2016 the exhibition is based on Poubi Lai a resident of world famous Loktak Lake, according to folk beliefs Meiteis of Manipur.
The main attraction of this exhibition is the 21 ft long giant wooden python ‘Poubi Lai’. Along with that, contemporary artisans from Manipur have presented the stories of Poubi Lai through paintings.
The exhibition contains a theme of ‘Environmental protection’ for explaining this to the children of age 10 to 15 years, Museum is organising various activities like drawing/ painting, clay modelling and special film shows.  Students under the guidance of eminent artists are painting and making clay models on Poubi Lai. This is helping to enhance their interest towards country’s rich cultural heritage and increasing their creativity.
A team of 40 students from each school interested in the exhibition is being invited on an appointed day. They are given a guided tour of the exhibition on Poubi Lai and interesting facts from Meitei community and Manipur. Later they are provided with drawing sheets, colours, clay and other materials to present their artistic skills and perspective on the exhibition.
The exhibition and activities will continue till February 15, 2016 at Veethi Sankul indoor exhibition building. Participating schools with excellent who excelled in promotion of culture and heritage amongst its students will be presented with Heritage Corner Exhibitions by IGRMS.  Schools can register for participating by contacting IGRMS at 0755-2526548.
