Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organised another chapter of museum’s popular series, Museum Popular Lecture Today on Monday, June 01, 2015, where Kolkata based Film Maker, Mr. Sajal Samadder spoke on ‘Aesthetic in Anthropological Films’. Mr. Samadder commenced his lecture with explaining his transformation from an ad-commercial film maker to a documentary film maker. He shared his experiences from his three years long research of Toto tribe of Bengal for his first anthropological documentary. He informed that it was his childhood dream to become a film maker for that he acquired talents in various genre starting from music to art direction of feature films. While concluding his lecture, Mr. Samadder said “Upcoming documentary film makers should ensure that while making an informative film they are not missing the extremely important part of Films- its Aesthetic”. Prof. Sarit Kumar Choudhuri (Director, IGRMS) congratulated Mr. Samadder for making a documentary on a difficult subject like Anthropology. On this occasion, academicians like Dr Debasis Debnath (Professor, IIFM), Prof Savita Raje (Professor, SPA) and Mr. Arun Kumar Shrivastava (Joint Director, IGRMS) attended the lecture. The programme was coordinated by Mr Surya Kumar Pandey (Assistant Keeper) and Mr. H.B.S. Parihar (OIC, Cine-Video) delivered the vote of thanks.            

Mr. Sajal Samadder, is country’s one of the veteran painter and well researched filmmakers. With his Hard work, experience and research by subject based and informative films, he has established himself in the film world. Mr. Samadder as an independent filmmaker is member of panel of government’s various institutions. He has directed documentary films like Tribes of Bengal, Lepchas of Bengal, Homeland of Kuduk, Hidden treasure of Limbu and the magical painter, Jadopatiya and other anthropological documentaries. Presently he is working on a feature film based on poetry of Rabindranath Tagore and a 35 mm Bengali feature film ‘Bhaloveshe dekho ekbaar’.
