International Women’s Day Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organized special programme ‘Shashwati-2015

‘Shashwati-2015’
On the occasion of International Women’s Day Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organized special programme ‘Shashwati-2015’. The day long programmes commenced with Museum popular lecture by Mrs Jarjum Ete from Arunachal Pradesh on “Efforts of the Tribal Women of North East India towards Political Leadership: Cases from Patriarchal Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland”. The lecture was chaired by by Prof Rekha Singhal, Professor, IIFM Bhopal. Earlier, Joint Director Mr. Arun Kumar Shrivastava gave brief outline about Women’s Day celebration. Director, IGRMS, Prof Sarit Kumar Choudhuri in his address, gave brief description about works of Mrs Jarjum Ete. Mrs Ete commenced her lecture with clearing the myths about Arunachal Pradesh, she gave her whole lecture in Hindi and told that Hindi is in use among 25 different tribes of Arunachal. Speaking of Manav Sangrahalaya, she said the houses of Nagaland and Arunachal in IGRMS best describes the social status of women of aforesaid states.
Smt. Jarjum Ete is a social activist, a prominent public figure and a vanguard for the cause of child and women in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. At an all India level, she has been part of several campaigns and movements around the issues of women’s rights, forest rights and struggle for justice. She was the first Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission on Women. Presently, she is Chief Advisor of the Galo Welfare Society, the executive body of her tribe’s apex council, the Galo Baanv Kvba. She is also heading the All Indian Union of Forest Working People as its President apart from being involved with women and childern’s rights organisations in the state, region and the national level. 
Vyanjan Mela - A food festival - ‘Vyanjan Mela’ was organized where Indigenous cuisine of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and South Indian states were prepared and served to the visitors. From Gujarat kitchen - Khandvi, Gujarati Kadhi, Khaman dhokla, Daal dhokli, Thepla and Basundi, From Madhya pRadesh- Daal-Bafla, Kadhi, chutney, Churme ke laddu and Pulav, From South India- Indli, Vada, Dosa, Sambhar and Chutney and from Punjab- Amritasri Chhole-KUlche and Punjabi Lassi were served.
Mamatva Mother’s corner  - Motherhood is the greatest gift of God to the women; blessed with motherhood a woman serves entire humanity. The contribution of women which she renders in caring and nurturing of her sibling is beyond words and expression. Comprehending the significance of women as mother since they are the real convener of social and cultural values to children and their requirements, IGRMS has made a humble attempt to facilitate its women visitors by opening ‘Mamatva’ the mother’s corner with essential amenities. It was inaugurated by Mrs Jarjum Ete and other ladies present on the occasion.
Exhibit of the Month Manav Sangrahalaya in continuation to its popular series of ‘Exhibit of the Month’ exhibits one specific object on the dais. In the same series for the month of March, 2015 the ‘Exhibit of the Month’ is “Toperi- A bridal head ornament” was inaugurated jointly by Prof. Sarit K Chaudhury, Director, IGRMS and Mrs. Jarjum Ete today at Veethi Sankul, Manav Sangrahalaya.
Regional Dresses of India - A special show of Regional Dresses of India was presented at Veethi Sankul Auditorium by lady anthropologists and other officials of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya.
‘Ko Aham’- A special cultural performance entitled as ‘Ko Aham’ was performed by Kathak maestro, Padamshri Sovana Narayan at Veethi Sankul Indoor Auditorium.  She commenced her performance with ‘Saraswati Vandana’ and later performed Draupadi Cheer Haran, Yashodhara from life of Gautam Buddha and finally Ko Aham.
 
Shovana Narayan is a Kathak Maestro and an outstanding dancer. She is an incarnation of the great artistic and social traditions of India. She created a new and innovative style of performing arts by enriching it with a deeper and wider canvas of expression and dimensions. She has been awarded with Padmashri in 1992 and Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1999. Shovana Narayan established herself as a dancer during 1970s and the last four decades have seen her captivating audiences in numerous dance festivals. Trained by legendary Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj and Kundanlal Gangani at Kathak Kendra, Delhi, Shovana Narayan is known for her strong urge for experimentation. She has set a unique trend by redefining dance and often considered as a living legend in the field of art. Shovana  is the first ever professional dancer who combines a full fledged career as a senior serving civil servant in the Government of India.
