Fusion music festival at Manav Sangrahalaya

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is organising ‘Fusion-2016’ a three days long festival of fusion music entitled as from 11th to 13th January, 2016. India has a rich tradition of folk and tribal music which provides a special identity to the nation’s culture. In this festival three popular groups from Manipur and Nagaland will present fusion music daily at Veethi Sankul indoor auditorium of IGRMS from 6.30 pm. The entry to the three day long ‘Fusion-2016’  is free for all. The schedule of the programmes is as follows:-
On 11th January, 2016 with the performance of Ehool Band - A fusion music based on Manipuri music the festival will commence. This young talented group of performers has been working towards Manipuri music and its associated performing art forms and fusion music for the last 15 years produce various music compositions and showed before impressive audience at home and abroad. The composition may be a collage of various rhythms and beats of traditional Manipuri drums supported by other instruments like Sanantara, Violin, Flute, Conch, Kartal, Pena, Penao, clappings and other musical effects
On 12th January, 2016 – ethnic folk and fusion maestro Guru Rewben Mashangva & his son Saka will give their first performance in Bhopal. Guru Rewben Mashangva born in a remote village of Choithar in Ukhrul district 11 kilometers from Ukhrul district headquarters, is one of the most popular and ingenious Naga musician of India. Known as 'King of Naga Folk Blues' by the public and 'Cultural Ambassador of the Nagas' by the journalist, Guru Rewben is truly a talented singer, musician, songwriter, folk music researcher and maker of musical instruments. He plays the guitar producing a ethnic folk sound like no one can, the mouth organ, the four hole flute known as yangkahui, the tingteila (folk fiddle) and his rare cow bell percussion.
On 13th January, 2016 Grammy nominated band ‘Abiogenesis’ will perform. Abiogenesis is a Folk-Fusion band from Dimapur (Nagaland), formed in 1992 and has been performing since 2005. Their album 'Aeon Spell', 'Rustic Relish' and 'Slice of Heaven’ were listed for nominations in the Grammys.  They describe their sound as a form of world music called ‘Howey music’. Frontman Moa Subong One performs with a wind instrument he has invented called the bamhum. Not satisfied with just playing mainstream music and their hunger to take music to a higher level, the band went further into exploration and experimentation which resulted in a new form of world music. Abiogenesis is the only band in the world that plays Howey & Bamhum (instruments). Known for their energetic and lively acts, they have performed in many places in India, Thailand and Myanmar.
