The exhibition ‘Roots and Routes’, organised by the Ministry of Culture on the side-lines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi delved into India's civilizational heritage, exploring its interconnectedness and ethos. It showcased India's cultural marvels through artifacts, literature, numismatics, epigraphy, and paintings, creating a rich and diverse narrative. This exhibition aligned with G20 priorities and the universal values of 'VasudhaivaKutumbakam' by highlighting themes such as nature and environment, democratic spirit, gender equality, and education. It also connected the shared global traditions among G20 countries. 'Roots' represent India's indigenous cultural elements like Shringar, Sangeet, and Prakriti, while 'Routes' explore the dissemination of these elements through various mediums, including language, philosophy, religion, literature, sculpture, and paintings. The exhibition brought together priceless artifacts from institutions across India, including the Indian Museum, Government Museums, the National Museum, and more, presenting a remarkable assemblage of Indian heritage, including sculptures, art pieces, bronzes, manuscripts, and paintings. This exhibition aimed to foster a dialogue between 'Roots and Routes,' presenting diverse voices, thoughts, and relatable stories.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the spouses of G20 Leaders’ on 9 September 2023 at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi, and was open to the public until 31 January 2024. The project was curated by Shri Raghvendra Singh, and supported by the National Council of Science Museums, National Museum and National Gallery of Modern Art.
