‘Exhibit of the Month’
Under the museum series ‘Exhibit of the Month’ of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, a traditional object is displayed in the appearance for a whole month. The exhibit for the month of April - “DHABLA” is on display in the indoor exhibition building – Veethi Sankul. Prof Savita Raje (Professor, School of Planning and Architecture) and Director, IGRMS, Prof Sarit Kumar Choudhuri jointly formally inaugurated the 'exhibit of the month'.
 
The Kathiawar peninsula in the western part of Gujarat in India is named after the chief ruling community, the Kathis who are also popularly known as the Kathi Darbar. The present object ‘Dhabla’ also known as ‘Dhabdo’ is used as dowry box specifically given at the time of marriage ceremony for storing clothes and jewellery. It contains the detail of decorative elements with embossed marks of Sun and Lotus symbolizing their belief of being Surya Vanshi (the descendents of Sura).
