MURTI SHANKHO

Shankho is a wind instrument made from conch shell. The word Shankho is derived from the Sanskrit word “Shum” means something good and “Kham” means water. Shankho literally means the conch which holds the sacred water. It is a symbol of cosmic space and its attribute is sound. The blowing of Shankh produces vibration of “OM”. It is considered to be one of the most auspicious objects that emerged from sea during Samudra Manthan and its sound invites peace, prosperity and luck at home. Blowing the Shankh removes the negative energy from the house and makes the mind pure. It is also considered to be the abode of Laxmi and Vishnu. It is said that keeping shankh at home brings, good luck and prosperity. A shankh is used to blow at the time of beginning of rituals. It is a religious practice whenever it is blown it is said that it purifies the environment from all evil effects. Shankh is associated with several myths, legends and traditions. Water kept in shankh is sprinkled while performing pooja to cleanse and purify the space. The present object represent a conch shell made shankh decorated with heavy carving depicting Devi Durga & other Gods & Goddesses. There are different types of Shankh e.g. Dakshinavarti Shankh, Vaamavarti Shankh, Ganesha Shankh, Gaumukhi Shankh, Kauri Shankh, Moti/Pearl Shankh and Heera Shankh.
