Gandhi Charkha is a portable spinning wheel which is compact and can be folded into a wooden box. This handy device is made of teak wood and includes two wheels, a spindle with hooked needles, cotton slivers, spindle holder, cotton drive band, two storage compartments that held the additional spindle and fiber and a skeiner. This box charkha is ideal for spinning short staple fibers such as cotton or fine wool into yarn. It is very compact and light weight and can be easily carried with a handle. Charkha is the symbol of non-violence, self-sufficiency, self-reliance and self-governance of India. The Peticharkha is used by turning the crank which simultaneously spun the two wheels and spindle.
