Ban bati is a traditional utensil of Assam. It is a bowl on a stand made of bell metal used to offer sweet items like flattened rice, curd and jaggery, and red tea to guests and dignitaries. Batis has a variety of names depending on its shape, size, and usage. A wide range of brass and bell metal utensils and craft items constitute the treasure of the rich metal tradition of Assam. Metal utensils fulfill the basic need of domestic utilities as well as religious usages. In Assam gifting bell metal objects has always remained the core tradition in the social sphere. Besides, as a social practice bride carries traditional bell metal products to her in-laws' house. These items are much valued and equally used items in the social and religious sphere.
